Frequently asked questions

What wind speed do I need to wing foil?

Most riders can wing foil from about 10 to 12 knots with a large wing and a high-lift foil. Around 15 to 20 knots is the comfortable range for most weights, and above 25 knots gear gets harder to control. The forecast shows a minimum wind to foil marker so you can compare the hourly wind and gusts against your own threshold.

How do I read the wind and wave forecast?

Each hour shows an arrow pointing the way the wind is blowing, the average wind speed, the gust speed, wave height and temperature. Look for hours where the average wind is above your minimum, gusts are not much higher than the average, and the wind direction suits your spot.

How far ahead does the forecast go?

The forecast is hourly for the next 7 days. The live conditions card at the top shows current wind and swell for your GPS location or the spot you selected.

Can I check any spot, not just my current location?

Yes. Allow location access for live conditions where you are, or use the spot search to look up any beach, lake or bay and see its forecast.

How are wind alerts sent?

Set a spot and a wind threshold and the app sends you an email when the forecast reaches that level, so you do not have to keep checking.

Which units are supported?

Wind speed can be shown in knots (kts), miles per hour (mph) or kilometres per hour (km/h). Wave height and temperature are shown with the forecast.

Is the forecast useful for kitesurfing, windsurfing and surfing?

Yes. Wind speed, gusts, direction and wave height are the same inputs those sports use, so the forecast works for kitesurfing, windsurfing and surfing as well as wing foiling.

Is it free?

Yes. The forecast and the live conditions are free to use.
